Board Treasurer
Nasser Badra is Board Treasurer of the Lebanese Economic Association and a macroeconomist specialising in fiscal policy, debt sustainability, and applied econometrics. He served as Resident Macroeconomics Advisor with the International Monetary Fund in Beirut from 2023 to 2025 and continues to work with the Fund as a short-term expert.
Before joining the IMF, he spent nearly five years as Economic Affairs Officer at the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), where he conducted debt sustainability analysis, estimated fiscal multipliers using structural VAR models, and built trade-in-services forecasting models across the Arab region. He has advised the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister of Lebanon on the National Recovery Plan through UNDP, consulted for the International Labour Organization on youth employment in Jordan, and served as a research assistant and consultant at the American University of Beirut, where he received the Samir Makdissi Award for Research Excellence in 2013.
His published research appears in the Journal of Economic Asymmetries, the Middle East Development Journal, and Research in International Business and Finance, addressing fiscal asymmetries and Lebanon’s debt crisis, fiscal policy under high debt, and the eurozone debt crisis. He holds a Master of Arts in Economics from the American University of Beirut and completed graduate coursework in economics at California State University, Sacramento.
